John Francis Carroll (1932 - November 1969), was an American man who is known for being third tallest verified person of all-time. Although Carroll's maximum standing height 8 ft (2.44cm), he had spinal creature and according an enginner his height would have been about 8 ft 7.75 in (263.5cm).
Biography[]
Carroll was born in Buffalo, New York. He was known as the Buffalo Giant in medical literature. He was third in stature only to Robert Wadlow. His extraordinary growth started at the age of sixteen and continued until his death, despite extensive treatments at Mercy Hospital. At one point he grew eight inches (20 cm) in height in a year.
John Caroll was one of only 18 people in medical history to have reached a height of 8 feet (244 cm) or more. He suffered from severe, 2-dimensional spinal curvature (Kyphoscoliosis ) and acromegalic gigantism. He had a standing height of 8 ft 1⁄4 in (244 cm) on October 14, 1959, at age 27 but, according to calculations by an engineer, his height would have been 8 ft 7.7 in (263.5 cm), assuming normal curvature of the spine, this is also the height Guinness World Records list, but his exact height is very unclear, so that marks him as Disputed.
In 1968 he measured 7 ft 10+1⁄2 in (240 cm), having shrunk in stature due to his worsening spinal condition, later, few months before his death he was measured at 7 ft 8.2 in (2.34cm).
